Development Without Displacement Art Show

We invite artists, poets, musicians, and community members to submit works to our show Development Without Displacement, a month-long exhibition to highlight the power of art in building community and to support and uphold people’s relationships to land, community and shared histories. Throughout Baltimore and the surrounding region, we use the arts to shine a light on our stories, culture, and struggles. Art helps inspire meaning about place, reflects on how we survive as a city, and can reveal a vision for a more equitable future. We are calling for works that respond to the following questions:

- What is your current experience in the region with development that threatens to displace residents, communities, traditions, and culture?

- How do you use the arts in your life or in your community to make a space for creative expression, personal freedom, cultural survival, and community building?

- What visions do you have for a future that respects people’s relationships to land and their communities?

Submission guidelines:

- Photographs, paintings, drawings, sculptures, spoken word, and poetry encouraged.

- Submit an image of your work, along with your name, the work’s title, medium, and dimensions to developmentwithoutdisplacement@gmail.com by August 1, 2016.

- Modest artist stipends are available to support the development of new work in response to the call.

- If you have questions or want to discuss an idea: email developmentwithoutdisplacement@gmail.com or call (650) 704-3208
